Lyne McGregor (1963-2024)

It’s with heavy hearts that today we honour the life and service of one of our own.

Lyne McGregor held a number of committee positions in our early years before taking a short break from the family history group. She served as our Vice President, Newsletter Editor and Membership Officer.

In 2009 she rejoined and since that time she has been our Newsletter Editor, then Correspondence Secretary, Publicity Officer and an integral member of the Cemetery Tours Group and current coordinator for the October cemetery walk. She has been one of our South Eastern Historical Association reps for many years as well as a regular research room volunteer and willing helper at sausage sizzles. All done while being a full time worker and proud mum juggling the ups and downs of life.

In February 2023 she quietly told us that she had been diagnosed with cancer, but it was not a problem. Her uncle had had cancer and he lived to ninety. Then she got on with things, the Dandenong Cemetery Walk gave her plenty to focus on while she had various medical procedures. Nothing was going to stop her leading a walk at Dandenong Cemetery in October 2023.

In March 2024 Lyne was continuing to send publicity notices to our local papers, she circulated the correspondence and had started to research her story for this year’s cemetery walk at Emerald. In April her health took a turn for the worse and she found herself back in hospital.

Her positive attitude was always ‘I will be fine and will get over this hiccup’ and we all hoped that she would. But it was not to be, and she passed peacefully on Anzac Day 2024.
